DESCRIPTION:Public Policy Luncheon with Treasury Assistant Secretary\, Heath Tarbert\nAssistant Secretary Heath Tarbert will speak on a variety of topics\, including recent developments with and the future of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS)\,  as well as other international finance topics. With trade/foreign investment and national security all topics of keen interest right now\, this luncheon is a must-attend event. Just within the last couple of months\, Congress passed and the President signed into law the Foreign Investment Risk Review Modernization Act (FIRRMA)\, which was a part of the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019\, This represents the first legislative update to CFIUS since 2007. \nAssistant Secretary Tarbert oversees a diverse portfolio of issues in Treasury’s Office of International Affairs. He focuses on investment security\, supporting the work of CFIUS to promote U.S. investments while protecting national security. He also manages U.S. relations with multilateral development banks and international organizations (e.g.\, World Bank\, Paris Club) established to foster economic growth\, eliminate extreme poverty\, and promote sustainable levels of sovereign debt. Dr. Tarbert advances U.S. interests in multilateral fora (e.g.\, Financial Stability Board\, G-20\, IMF\, OECD) on financial stability and regulatory issues while promoting growth and negotiating trade agreements that level the playing field for U.S. firms. His policy focus also includes monitoring investments in energy\, infrastructure and the environment. In addition to serving as Assistant Secretary\, Dr. Tarbert served as acting U.S. Executive Director of the World Bank Group. \nCome hear about these updates and reforms that will focus CFIUS even more effectively on confronting national security risks.
